Pocklington has entered the race to become the UK Town of Culture 2028.

The town has officially announced its intention to compete for the title of UK Town of Culture 2028, while unveiling an ambitious vision that celebrates the town’s heritage, creativity and community spirit.

The bid will be developed collaboratively with local organisations, cultural groups, schools, and volunteers and aims to showcase Pocklington as a small town with a big cultural heartbeat.

Chair of Pocklington Rugby in the Community, Andy Bowden said: “Culture isn’t just about the arts. Culture is about our heritage and the society in which we live.

Pocklington has always punched above its weight. Our town is rich in creativity; powered by volunteers; and defined by a strong sense of togetherness. This bid is our chance to shine a national spotlight on what makes Pocklington special – and to unlock new opportunities for culture, investment and community pride.”
