Pocklington Community Volunteer Support

Pocklington Community Volunteer Support (PCVS) has recently been set up as a central point of contact to 1) supply additional helpers/assistance to support local events etc and also to individual residents, post Covid and 2) for residents to volunteer to support 1).

The aims of PCVS are:-

  • To be a central point of contact for charities and non-profit groups/clubs to request support from volunteers (i.e. instead of groups only having access to their own volunteers/members, they will be able to bolster numbers with volunteers registered with PCSV).

  • To reduce silo working -  groups, clubs, charities, coming together, via volunteers, to support each others' special day, projects, events etc, giving potential to expand & achieve more.

  • To prompt groups, clubs, charities etc to encourage their own volunteers to join the pool, to help the Pocklington community spirit get better and better.

  • To allow events, projects etc the opportunity to expand, where previously a lack of volunteers had been a barrier.

  • To bring together the right knowledge, skills and experience to aid projects.

  • To provide fast response and offer support to emergency or critical incidents within the town.

  • To reduce resident isolation by supporting and encouraging the involvement of the elderly, youngsters and new residents in the town.

  • To improve community interaction and partnership, creating a sense of unity, establishing an enthusiastic team where new friendships are made.

  • To create a well-connected, happier community with greater productivity, achieving the previously unimaginable.

How it works

PCVS will recruit local volunteers into a ‘volunteer pool’, coordinate the resources for requests for volunteers and provide feedback on completion of the requests

To Volunteer residents will need to register their interest and when security checks are complete they will be notified of incoming request to which they can sign up to (accept) or decline.

Local clubs, groups, charities, council etc will submit a “request” advising of date, time, location, contact details and brief overview of volunteer tasking.  Once PCVS has identified volunteers, their basic contact information will be relayed to the Requestor in the event of any changes. The volunteer will arrive inline with the information supplied when the request was submitted.

PCVS has already partnered with Pocklington Town Council and Pocklington Rugby In The Community but are now looking to expand partnerships to local groups, clubs, charities and non-profit organisations who would like ad-hoc, regular or additional volunteer support. PCVS would also like to ask potential partners to inform their own volunteers/members of PCVS 'volunteer pool' but this is not forced upon the groups etc. Note: volunteers must self-refer to PCVS if interested.

PCVS will mobilise volunteers by:

  • Maintaining a register of everyone who has expressed an interest to volunteer their time, skills, enthusiasm and commitment.

  • Supporting local charities, clubs, groups, non profit organisations etc to secure the support of volunteers registered with PCVS – helping them to find people who are willing and available to help. This can be for one-off events or to provide more regular support. PCVS will not affect or be involved with the normal everyday running, organisation or membership of your group/club/charity. It will simply source additional volunteers to support you.

  • Helping Pocklington residents who need practical volunteer support eg. shopping for those with mobility issues, welfare checks of residents etc

Volunteering with PCSV

  • Being a volunteer is enjoyable, rewarding and good for your health and wellbeing, whatever your age, background or stage of life.

  • By joining PCVS you are expressing an interest that you want to help in some way to support your local community and that you are happy to have security checks done.

  • When you join PCVS you will be added to the volunteer register and will then be notified of volunteering opportunities in the local area via the app. You can then opt in or out of helping.

  • As a volunteer you decide when and what type of volunteering you would like to do, so you can commit as much or as little time as you choose. You can volunteer easily around your other commitments. Volunteering opportunities can be anything from a couple of hours every month to once a year, it’s your choice.
