New COVID-19 community Hub launched at rugby club
Not everyone has a network of family, friends, neighbours or carers to call upon.
In response, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, in partnership with the HEY Smile Foundation, has created a number of community response hubs which will connect the most vulnerable people in the East Riding with those that can provide the help and support they need.
The new Pocklington Hub, hosted at the towns rugby club, will act as a point of contact for local community groups to coordinate assistance, provide advice and support our local community during these unprecedented times. This could range from collecting medication, shopping for food and essentials or a telephone call if they are feeling isolated.
The Pocklington COVID-19 Community Support Group, setup on Facebook in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, now has well over 1500 followers. This community forum, run by local residents Zoe Hodgkin and Ruth Jackson has already started to arrange help in our local area and the Hub will provide a base to support this ongoing work. The People’s Pantry, a self service food bank, are also using the Hub as a base to deliver essential items to local vulnerable residents.
Supporting the day to day running of the Hub will be staff from East Riding of Yorkshire Council who will be available at the rugby club on weekdays to work with these local community groups to coordinate the ongoing support to residents.
The Hub has been established to support these community groups and any individuals in need of help should either call the Pocklington COVID-19 Community Support Group on 01759 740844 or the East Riding of Yorkshire Council dedicated line on 01482 393919.
