‘Active Towns’ scheme to encourage and support communities and residents to be physically, mentally and socially active in Pocklington
Active Towns is an exiting pilot scheme which aims to encourage and support communities and residents to be physically, mentally and socially active in Pocklington, Market Weighton, Goole and Howden.
Unfortunately, under the current circumstances we can't run any large scale community events or activities, however as discussed we have managed to set up some interactive games and a few walking trails for residents to have a bit of fun with and stay active via the Love Exploring app. Further developments for this app will continue and link with residents, schools and partner information to feature new concepts and opportunities in the future.
The app go live for Active Towns today and for Pocklington and includes a Dinosaur Safari on West Green, Pocklington we have also added an interactive halloween spooky town trail and 3 walks of various distances in the local area.
Similarly we hope to promote and develop opportunities for walking and cycling to support residents to be active in and around their towns via the walking the riding website and local cycling maps. As these are self led opportunities we hope it will support residents to be active in these unprecedented times.
Further Active Towns work includes the Health & Wellbeing Team working with residents and local clubs, groups, partners and organisations to expand community resources and help to develop well-being activities. This will include developing a local hub with partners and consultation work to discover the wants, needs and gaps for the town in terms of health and well-being opportunities.
As well as promoting local activities, we aim to offer support, guidance and funding opportunities to enable clubs and groups to get restarted again.
Please also see a link to our web page and a survey for residents to complete for some initial feedback / consultation.
